What Is Monsoon?

The term monsoon is taken from the Arabic word ‘Mausim’ which means sea breeze in Arabic. This term was developed by Arabian sea traders. Later on, the term Mausim was converted to Monsoon. In simple terms, the monsoon means the breeze that changes its direction by the season. Monsoon is the breeze which tends to bring rain in the area where it blows.

What Is the Difference Between Monsoon And Rainfall?

Monsoon is more than just rainfall. However, rainfall is a small part of the monsoon. Monsoon can lead to dry weather as well. According to the Indian Meteorological Department Of India, the monsoon is a complete process of the environment. The monsoon is responsible for bringing rainfall in most parts of India, not the vice versa. The rainfall starts as soon as the monsoon enters any part of the country and continuous rainfall is called the rainy season. This rainy season lasts from one to four months in different states.

How Does It Rain After Monsoon?

When a monsoon breeze strikes the southwestern coasts of India, it creates rainfall conditions in several parts of the country. However, there are several times when the monsoon does not strike the country at the right time leading to late or less rainfall. There are many reasons for this. For instance, when a monsoon breeze strikes with cyclones, it leads to delays in rainfall.

Effects Of Monsoon

Monsoon leads to heavy rainfall in the catchment areas leading to floods in the Himalayan rivers. Southern parts of India receive rainfall due to monsoon between June to mid-September. While some parts of the country receive rainfall during October and November.
