What To Do If Flight Gets Cancelled Or Delayed

The airline is liable to provide compensation and facilities if your flight gets delayed or cancelled. 

  • If your flight gets cancelled two weeks prior to your departure date, then the airline will inform you, and if they fail to do so, then either they’ll book an alternate flight for you or give you a full refund.
  • If your flight gets cancelled in less than 2 weeks, but more than 24 hours before departure, then they have to offer you a flight to depart within 2 hours of the originally scheduled time of your flight. 

Compensation For Delay Or Cancellation

If your flight duration is up to 1 hour, the airline has to give you Rs 5,000 or one-way fare, excluding taxes.

If your flight duration is more than an hour, but less than 2 hours, the airlines have to give you Rs 7,500 as compensation, whereas if your flight duration is more than 2 hours, then the airlines have to give you Rs 10,000 or one-way fare.

But remember you won’t get any compensation if a flight gets delayed or cancelled due to riots, rains or floods.

Refund Process

Passengers can file a report on an app AirSewa, recently launched by the government. You can use this app to report any grievances related to the Civil Aviation entities in India. After filing a report, the airline will pay you back in cash, bank transfer or travel vouchers, according to your preference.

Lost your bag? Don’t worry, just it’s airlines duty to bring your bag to you at the earliest. And if you don’t get your bag within 21 days, then airlines will pay you as per the weight of bags checked in.

Compensation For Damaged Baggage

If your bag is damaged then file a Property Irregularity Report at the airline’s baggage desk. Company will either repair your bag or replace it with a new one, totally depends upon the damage. If you don’t like the replacement, then you can ask for money that will be determined by your bag’s condition and it’s the original market price.
