There is a long list of Bollywood songs which horrifies sexism and makes us cringe every single time. More so because a majority of us have danced to the beats of these misogynist songs through the years.
If I be honest here, I have been one among many. It is only a few years ago I realised how demeaning some of their lyrics have been.
No matter how peppy these song tracks are, there shouldn't be really any debate on how derogatory some song lyrics have been. Let's not even get started with some examples here.
The damage has been done and Bollywood has left us disappointed multiple times but there is still a silver lining. There is also a good list of non-sexist songs, songs which celebrate womanhood, freedom and inspire us to be better.
So, today, I thought of taking you through some of my favourite non-sexist Bollywood songs of all time. Read on -
Kinare
Movie - Queen
Kangana Ranaut starrer Queen took us through the self discovery journey of a woman who got rejected in marriage. As Rani, Kangana Ranaut turns her tragedy into a happy ending. No wonder why the movie managed to win millions of hearts. One of my favourite tracks from the movie, Kinare arrives just at the perfect time, when she finally realises she is enough. The lyrics are inspiring.
Jo choti si har ek nahar
Sagar ban bhi jaaye
Koi tinka leke haath mein
Dhoond hi lenge hum
Kinaare...
Rani realises how her journey to Paris changed her as a person and how she has been enjoying it all alone and loving her new self to the fullest.
Kudi Nu Nachne De
Movie - Angrezi Medium

A special track from the movie starring Bollywood beauties like Alia Bhatt, Kriti Sanon, Janhvi Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif became an instant hit. Reason? The peppy track celebrates womanhood.
On days, when I feel out of order, I often listen to this one. It makes me want to dance and gives me a good dose of confidence.
Tu Saareyan Fikran Nu Chadd Ke
Bann Thann Ke
Kudi Nu Nachne De, Nachne De
Some of my favourite lines literally translate to just forget all your worries, dress up a little and dance your heart out!

Badal Pe Paon Hai
Movie - Chak De India
In the movie, this one was just aptly placed, right when Indian hockey girls team gets ticket to the finals and reaches Australia.
Baadal Pe Paanv Hain, Ya Jhuta Daanv Hai
Abb Toh Bhay Chal Padi Apani Yeh Naav Hai
This is a song I like to hear to celebrate those achievements, no matter big or small. It makes me believe that once I start moving towards my goals with utmost dedication, nothing can really stop me. Badal Pe Paon is a song all about dreaming and finally achieving our goals. Don't you think?

Masakali
Movie - Delhi 6
An AR Rahman creation, this one tops my playlist all the time. Even today, years later to the release of this Sonam Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan starrer, Masakali is one song which stays close to my heart.
Itdi se mudd, ada se udd
Karle puri dil ki tamanna
Hawa se jud, ada se udd
Phurr phurr phurr, tu hai heera panna re
This beautifully written number is all about celebrating oneself, fulfilling the desires of your heart, meeting your real self and flying towards our dreams.
Jazba
Movie - Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl
Only you can change your life no one else will do it for you and for that all you need to do is awaken your passion. That's what this song Jazba is all about. Featuring Anushka Sharma, though this song didn't get much limelight, it is powerful and deserves to be on your playlist.
This track makes you listen to your heart and tells you not to set a limit for yourself or care what people say about you.
Dil ki hi tu suna, dil ko apni sunwa na
Sapno ke pahiyon ko yaara
Speed limit na gawara
Khuli udaano ne pukara
Jaga le tu, jaga le jazba
