No matter how friendly you are with your boss, there are still some things and aspects of your life that should be kept a secret from them. A male boss or a female boss, do not disclose these things about you or your life. Here is a list that you must checkout.

Personal Info

The hard truth is that many employers judge their employees based on the personal life details of their employees. They judge your Facebook posts and especially pictures and they really can be very nosey if they see you having fun. This can be an issue while they are planning a promotion as well for you. If your manager is understanding then you are lucky but still try to refrain as no one is tied to you.

Night Life

Putting your kids to sleep or drinking at a bar, or a date, your life post-work hours, is personal and you do not have to tell your boss about it. Yes, if you are doing work from home as extra work, only then do you have to keep him/her in the loop.

Religious Beliefs

Talking too much about religion at work is uncalled for and considered inappropriate unless you are working for an organisation that functions on religious grounds. If you feel that the duties given to you as a part of the job that violated a religious belief, then speak up. Each soul is entitled to his or her religious beliefs however not everyone is religious. This is something you should remember at your workplace.

Spouse’s Income

Your boss does not have to know how much money your spouse makes. Why I am saying that? Well if your boss is a CEO and you know another co-worker whose spouse is unemployed, it is possible that you might lose out on that promotion no matter how qualified you are.. it is all about "need". Why take chances?

Sexual Orientation

There is no reason that you should be open and be telling about your sexual orientation to your boss. It is a personal preference and just in case your boss has issues with it, he or she may discriminate as we all know that the Indian mindset is still far from it and many are still prejudiced no matter how much they talk about being open-minded. However, if you do want to tell, it is completely upto you, in the end, it is your decision.

Mental Health Issues

We all have a phase in life when we feel blue, depressed which could be caused by many factors including a breakup or a divorce. But if you are seeing a therapist just say you have a doctor's appointment. If you say you are feeling depressed and taking help, many bosses tend to take this as your inability to take up responsibilities and job duties at work. If you need a break just take a few days off, it is as simple as that.

The main take away here is that keep your personal life and professional lives separate and don't mix them. If you do, well the worries and stress become double as they both get mangled which we don't want.
