During ‘In the Soop Season 2’, BTS ARMY saw the rapper reading this book. There is a library in the book that is located halfway between life and death, and you can go there to examine all of your regrets and imagine what your life would have been like if you had made other decisions. Nora Seed gets an opportunity to put things right when she finds herself at the midnight library. Her life has been filled with regret and unhappiness thus far. She believes she has let herself and everyone down is the main focus of the story.
2. Kim Ji-young, Born 1982 by Cho Nam-Joo
BTS RM said he read this book in a November 2017 VLIVE session. Kim Ji-young, Born 1982 tells the declining state of a typical married millennial woman's sanity. This novel focuses on a young mother leading an ordinary life. She experiences a sudden psychotic episode that causes her to start pretending to be other women. Social norms are violated because she adopts the identities of others, and the readers witness how those around her respond to her strange actions. In the VLIVE Namjoon mentioned that “The book’s implications were unlike any other, and I was impressed. It’s a thought-provoking book.”
3. Demian by Hermann Hesse

In 2015, Namjoon was seen reading this book a couple of times, including behind the scenes at the KBS Music Bank. It examines themes of good and evil, light and dark, as it follows him as he navigates friendships, faith, crime, and everything in between. Wings, the band's 2016 album was inspired by RM's passion for the novel. The novel's main theme, the journey from childhood to adulthood was depicted in the music video, ‘Blood, Sweat, and Tears’.

4. Human Acts by Han Kang (translated by Deborah Smith)

Another book that you can read is Human Acts which he mentioned in his 2017 VLIVE session. Set in Gwangju, South Korea in 1980, the novel covers a range of themes in the aftermath of the Gwangju Uprising, including humanism, violence, censorship, and more through the voices of many narrators. Deborah Smith is the translator of this work, which was originally written in Japanese. It is said that the book is important in preserving the Uprising as a symbol of the struggle for democracy. During his VLIVE, he said “I read it on the plane on the way to Europe (Going To Europe? Do Not Miss These Single-Country Train Routes) as well as in the hotel. When I was reading it, I felt overwhelmed because the author wrote so well. It was very impressive.”

5. Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
In the book Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, a man's sudden transformation into an insect is the focus of a story that explores his emotions of isolation and how those around him react. A story published by Korea Times said that Namjoon (Favourite Food Items Loved By BTS Kim Nam joon) had been seen carrying the book several times. The BTS army has seen the book on his bookshelf, and he has referenced it in several interviews.
