Ubisoft is bringing back the iconic Assassin's Creed franchise this year with its latest instalment, ‘Assassin's Creed Shadows.’ Following a hiatus in 2024 to address concerns about declining game quality, the studio is making a comeback with a title that fulfils a long-standing fan request, a setting in 16th-century Japan.

‘Assassin's Creed: Shadows’ is scheduled for release on Thursday, March 20, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, according toUbisoft. Players can purchase the game through the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, and Steam.
Choose Your Path: Play as Yasuke or Naoe
In 'Assassin's Creed: Shadows,' players have the freedom to step into the shoes of either a samurai or a shinobi. Each character, Yasuke and Naoe, offers a unique playstyle, with individual progressions, skills, stats, and specialised gear. Ubisoft confirms that players can tackle missions using either protagonist, allowing for a tailored gameplay experience.

The game is set in the chaotic final years of Japan’s Sengoku era, a period of intense warfare and political upheaval that shaped the country’s future.
Naoe: Stealth and Precision
Naoe is a highly skilled and agile shinobi who excels in moving undetected. She leverages the elements of noise, light, and shadows to stay out of sight. Players controlling Naoe can utilise an array of throwing weapons, such as kunai and shuriken, as well as smoke bombs for quick escapes. Her expertise in parkour and the use of a grappling hook make her an expert infiltrator, while the hidden blade ensures swift and silent eliminations.
Yasuke: Strength and Combat Mastery
Unlike Naoe, Yasuke embodies raw strength and disciplined combat techniques. As a formidable samurai, he thrives in direct confrontations, using well-timed blocks, parries, and powerful attacks to overpower foes. His arsenal includes deadly weapons such as the katana, kanabo, naginata, and bows, making him a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.
According to Ubisoft, players can pre-order any edition of ‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ to receive exclusive content, including the upcoming expansion ‘Claws of Awaji’ and a bonus quest titled ‘Thrown to the Dogs.’ While the expansion is scheduled for release later in 2025, the bonus quest will be available from day one.

Set on a perilous and enigmatic island, the ‘Claws of Awaji’ expansion will challenge players with relentless threats. The mission involves retrieving a lost treasure while navigating deadly traps and ambushes from formidable new enemies. Additionally, players will gain access to the Bō, a brand-new weapon type, along with fresh skills, gear, and abilities—offering over 10 hours of extended gameplay, as detailed by the developers.
