Apple Watch For Kids Now Available In India: Discover Its Safety Features And How It Works

Apple has introduced the "Apple Watch For Your Kids" in India, focusing on security and privacy features. This new functionality is available on select Apple Watch models, allowing parents to set up cellular connectivity for their children, even if the kids don’t have their own iPhone. 

With this feature, children can send texts and make calls, while parents can track their location. The Apple Watch for your kids feature is available on cellular models of the Apple Watch Series 4 and later, or the Apple Watch SE, paired with an iPhone 8 or newer. 

Parents can set up their children’s Apple Watch using their iPhones. Each Apple Watch for Kids comes with its phone number via a separate cellular plan and can have its own Apple ID. According to Apple, Reliance Jio currently offers the necessary wireless cellular service in India.

According to the official Apple website, the Apple Watch for Kids includes several features designed specifically for both children and parents.

• Communication: Children can make and receive calls and messages from approved contacts, managed by their parents.
• Health and Fitness: Custom Activity goals promote an active lifestyle, and features like Emergency SOS offer added safety. Workout modes like outdoor walk, outdoor run, and outdoor cycle have been specially designed for kids.
• For health and fitness tracking, the Apple Watch is optimised for kids to focus on ‘Move’ minutes rather than kilojoules burned and offers customisable goals for the exercise and stand rings.
• Location Tracking: Parents can track their child's location via the Find People app and set up customisable location alerts.
• App Store Access: Kids can access age-appropriate apps directly from the App Store, with parental controls ensuring safety.
• Schooltime Mode: This mode minimises distractions during school hours by restricting app access and enabling ‘Do Not Disturb.’ Parents can also pre-schedule the Schooltime mode in advance.

Contact Approval: Parents have complete authority over which contacts their children can communicate with.
