Amitabh Bachchan To Rajinikanth, Artists Unite For A Short Film 'Family' To Spread Awareness About Coronavirus

Amidst the coronavirus outbreak, we all need to adhere to the directives given by the government. This is the time to practice self-distancing to prevent COVID-19 to further spread. To make people aware about the coronavirus outbreak, artists from Hindi and regional cinema have united for a unique short film called Family. This special, made-at-home short film revolves around the importance of staying indoors during the time of the coronavirus outbreak.

Film Family Comes Together

It was the exclusive premiere of 'Family' last night on all Sony Pictures Networks channels. The short film started trending everywhere after it went live. Amitabh Bachchan also shared the film on his Instagram handle and captioned it, Family When you see that the cause is greater than the idea you dreamt of .. there is just immense joy and gratitude for all my colleagues and friends in the making of this historic effort ! WE ARE ONE and WE SHALL OVERCOME ! Jai Hinजब विषय देश हित का हो, और आपका संकल्प आपके सपने से भी ज़्यादा विशाल हो ; तब फिर इस ऐतिहासिक प्रयत्न का उल्लहास और कृतज्ञ भाव, अपने फ़िल्म उद्योग के सह कलाकारों और मित्रों के लिए ! हम एक हैं ... टल जाएगा, ये संकट का समाँ ! नमस्कार ! जय हिंद !."

This movie features leading actors from across the country- Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Mohanlal, Rajinikanth, Mammootty, Chiranjeevi, Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Diljit Dosanjh, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Shiva Rajkumar, Sonalee Kulkarni.

The movie revolves around Amitabh Bachchan's sunglasses that have been misplaced and everyone tries to look for it. All the actors who are a part of this short film have shot their parts at their homes and then brought together this unique film.

Finally, when Priyanka Chopra hands over the pair of sunglasses to Amitabh Bachchan and asks him why he needed those, he says, “I needed these sunglasses because I do not need them. I am not going to go out of the house for a few days. If it lies around, it will get lost. If it gets lost, you all will have to search for it. Now, why should I trouble you all?.”

He also shared, “We all made this film together but none of us stepped out of our respective houses. Every artist shot their own section in their own house. No one stepped out of his or her house. You, too, please stay indoors. That is the only way to keep yourself safe from this dangerous coronavirus. Stay home, stay safe.”

The movie has been conceptualised and virtually directed by Prasoon Panday along with Amitabh Bachchan.

Shout-Out From Members Of The Film Industry

The movie is getting a big shout-out from the other members of the industry. Ace filmmaker, Karan Johar tweeted, "This is so amazing! So brilliantly and cleverly told! So rightfully said that we are one huge family! A family that creates and entertains! We stand by each other through thick and thin! Salute to Amitabh Bachchan and the entire team of actors and creators for making this!"

As soon as Amitabh Bachchan shared the video on his Instagram, the post was flooded with comments from actors including Bhumi Pednekar, Sunil Grover, Abhishek Bachchan.

Smriti Irani, Indian Politician, and former actress also shared the short film on her Instagram and captioned it, "#stayhomestaysafe #artistsunite They bring imaginations to life , they conform, they confront ; they sing and dance with joy ... they relent . They fuel passions , they squeeze emotions into nanoseconds anon.. however today they give hope to those who bring the magic alive sitting in the dark corners behind the glitzy lights .. artists unite for hope , a better tomorrow 🙏."

Film Industry To Make Donations To Daily Wage Workers

At the end of the movie, Amitabh Bachchan also shared that the artists would be making donations to the daily wage workers of the film industry. The initiative is called 'We are one' and through this, the industry would fund ration of around 1,00,000 households of the country.

Digitally barcoded coupons of hypermarkets and grocery stores have been distributed to all the workers of the All India Film Employees Confederation.

NP Singh, CEO and Managing Director, Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) in an interview shared, “In trying times, we have to collectively front and face issues that affect the industry. So, as part of its CSR outreach, SPN has taken the initiative of working alongside Mr. Amitabh Bachchan and Kalyan Jewelers to support the households of daily wage earners of the Indian film and television industry. SPN’s support will ensure that at least 50,000 workers and their families have their home supplies for a month.

Additionally, this film made by Prasoon is very special since it has been virtually directed. Like-minded celebrities have come together in this short film, which we are delighted to premiere on all channels of our network and on SonyLIV. While the times may be tough, the human spirit is resilient & strong, and this film captures that essence.”
