Aditi Rao Hydari, the actor who has been dominating both the South Indian and Hindi film industries with all her grace, is turning 36 years old today. From debuting her film career in Tamil industry in 2006 to starring in Hindi films with Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Ranveer Singh, we remember her journey from the royal family to Tollywood to Bollywood.
The actor was born to Ehsaan Hydari and his wife Vidya Rao, who is an acclaimed classical singer popular for thumri and dadra genres of music, in Hyderabad, Telangana. While her father was a Bohri Muslim, her mother, who is a Hindu by birth, is a practising Buddhist and a Chitrapur Saraswat from Mangalore who is half-Telugu. Carrying forward a mixed lineage comprising Bohri, Chitrapur Saraswat and Telugu, Hydari belongs to two royal lineages- one of sir Muhammad Saleh Akbar Hydari, former prime minister of Hyderabad state and Raja J. Rameshwar Rao of erstwhile Raja of Wanaparthy family, former governor of Assam.
Hydari began learning Bharatnatyam at the age of six and became a disciple of acclaimed dancer Leela Samson and later graduated from the Lady Shri Ram college in Delhi. Hydari debuted in the film industry with the 2006 Malayalam film Prajapathi starring alongside Mammootty.
However, Hydari’s actual debut happened with the 2007 Tamil film Sringaram where she portrayed the lead role of devadasia, a temple dancer of the 19th century, as the filming began in 2004. Despite limited theatrical releases, the film won three National awards.

The actor debuted in the Hindi film industry with the Rakesh Omprakash Mehra directed 2009 Hindi film Delhi 6 starring Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor where she featured in a supporting role. While she gave blockbusters in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam film industries, she played several supporting characters in the Hindi films including Ranbir Kapoor starrer Rockstar, Padmaavat. She also starred in lead roles in London, Paris, New York (2012) opposite Ali Zafar, Wazir starring Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar, and The Girl On The Train alongside Parineeti Chopra, among others. Her roles however lead or supporting, garnered critical acclamations from all over. Her latest ventures include Netflix anthology Ajeeb Dastaans, Sardar Ke Grandson, and Maha Samudram.
