Every time, she gives an interesting healthy recipe idea or gives a healthy twist to any recipe adhering to the tagline ‘’swastha raho, mast raho’. This time, she decided to combine a totally healthy food like oats with flavours of the south and the result is an Oats Idli recipe that’s guaranteed to be healthy and tasty. Idlis are a healthy food as the rawa or rice is steamed to prepare them and a very less quantity of oil is required to prepare this delectable dish. With the goodness of oats that are known to lower cholesterol, reduce constipation and also keep your hunger pangs in check, the oats idli recipe is a sure-shot way of having a healthy meal that can be made in a jiffy.
Oats Idli Ingredients
- Oats flour: 2 cups
- Rawa suji or semolina: ½ cup
- Full fat or low-fat dahi: 1 cup
- Carrots: 1 cup, grated
- Coriander leaves: ¼ cup, chopped
- ½ tsp Turmeric powder
- Green chillies: 1 ½, chopped
- Fruit salt: ½ tsp
- Water: 2 cups, or as needed
For Tempering
- Coconut oil: 1 ½ tbsp
- Mustard seeds: ½ tsp
- Urad dal: ½ tsp
- Chana dal: ½ tsp
- Curry leaves: 4-5, chopped

Method Of Preparing Oats Idli
- First of all, roast the oats and powder them into flour. (A 1kg pack of oats is available for Rs 185 in market but you can get it here for Rs 158).
- Now take a bowl and mix the oats flour with the suji, grated carrots, chopped coriander leaves, green chilles and salt. Bind this mixture by adding a little water till you have a consistency that’s not too thick nor thin.
- Keep this batter aside for about 20 minutes during which the suji will absorb the water.
- Now prepare the tempering by heating the coconut oil (get a jar of pure coconut cooking oil here at an offer price of Rs 330). Now add the mustard seeds and once they start spluttering, add the urad dal, chana dal and curry patta for aroma. (Get a 2 kg packet of organic urad dal whole at an offer price of Rs 450 here)
- Now add this tempering to the idli batter and mix thoroughly. Keep this aside.
- Next, grease an idli tray with oil and pour the idli batter carefully in the moulds.
- Steam this on high flame for 10 minutes,
- Keep the idli steamer on high flame and let it come to a boil. Let it boil for about 10 minutes.
- Scoop the idlis out and serve with sambar or chutney.
