Don't throw away those watermelon peels, you can use them! Watermelon rinds are super-packed with vitamins and nutrients. They contain amino acids, citrulline, which will keep your heart health in check. They also help in lowering blood pressure and boosting immunity. So, how does this nutrient-packed dish is made? Watermelon Murabba is super easy-to-make and will only take your 15 minutes!
Ingredients
- 1 bowl watermelon rind
- 1/2 tbsp cardamom powder
- 1 cup of sugar
- 2 bay leaves
- Water
- 1 tsp lemon juice
Directions
- Remove the red flesh of the watermelon, leaving only one very thin layer of red flesh attached to the rind.
- Peel off the hard green part of the rind. Chop the rind into desirable shapes and prick them using fork or toothpick.
For Blanching
- Take a heavy-bottomed saucepan, pour water in it and bring it to a boil.

- Next, add watermelon rind and let it cook for about 10-15 minutes or a bit more until the rind pieces are glossy and transparent.
- Sieve the extra water and allow them to cool.
- Take a separate pan, add water, sugar, bay leaves and cardamom powder. Stir to dissolve sugar and let it boil.
- When the syrup comes to a boil, add the watermelon rind and the lemon juice.

- Let it boil until it forms one strand consistency. It’ll take you around 20-30 minutes.
- Once you get that consistency, turn off the flame and leave it for overnight, so that watermelon rinds soak syrup well.
- Store the murabba in a sterilized glass jar and keep it in a dark cool place.
