Shahi Tukda is a popular North Indian dessert. It is a famous delight during festivals and can be easily prepared at home. This delicious dessert is made by deep-frying the bread slices in ghee and then slathering with a thick mixture of condensed milk (or rabri) and nuts. Ingredients

  • 5 Bread Slices
  • 1 litre Milk
  • 5 Almonds
  • 10 Pistachios
  • Few Saffron Threads
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1/2 cup Ghee for frying
  • 1 tsp Lemon Juice

Step

  • Step 1 :

    To prepare this sweet delight, boil water in a saucepan. Once the water comes to a boil, add sugar and saffron and let it boil, till the syrup achieves two string consistency. Once the sugar syrup turns a little thick. Turn off the flame and keep aside.

  • Step 2 :

    Take another pan, boil the milk in medium flame until the milk is reduced to about 1/4th of its original quantity. While stirring it continuously, add cardamom powder, sugar syrup and let it cook for another 5 minutes.

  • Step 3 :

    After 5 minutes, remove the pan from the flame and keep your rabri aside.

  • Step 4 :

    Now, take the bread slices and cut their sides and slice it as two triangles. Heat oil in a pan over medium flame and deep-dry the bread until they turn golden brown.

  • Step 5 :

    Once the bread slices are fried, dip them in the sugar syrup for a few seconds, and arrange the pieces in a serving dish, in one layer.

  • Step 6 :

    Pour the prepared rabri over the bread slices and garnish with the chopped nuts or silver vark. Bon Appétit!
