How To Make Mawa Bati: Diwali, also known as the festival of lights, is incomplete without sweets and desserts. One such popular and delectable dessert that is prepared during this festival is Mawa Bati. Mawa Bati is a traditional Indian sweet made with mawa (dried milk) and shaped into small round balls that are deep-fried and then dunked in sugar syrup. The crispy exterior with a soft and melt-in-the-mouth makes it the perfect dessert to celebrate a joyous occasion like Diwali.

So here we bring you a recipe of how you can make Mawa Bati at home this Diwali to enjoy with your family and friends.

How To Make Mawa Bati:

Mawa Bati

1. First, grate or crumble mawa in a bowl and add powdered sugar, semolina, cardamom powder, and milk powder to it. Mix all the ingredients well.

2. Now, add a few tablespoons of melted ghee to bind the mixture. Wet your hands with the water and shape the mixture into small round balls. Keep the prepared balls aside.

3. Now to make the stuffing add khoya and all the chopped nuts to it.

4. Next, in a deep pan, heat ghee on a medium flame for deep frying the mawa balls.

5. When the ghee is hot, add prepared balls for deep frying until the mawa balls turn golden brown from all sides.

6. After all the balls are fried, keep them aside to cool down.

7. Meanwhile, prepare the sugar syrup. Add sugar and water to a deep pan and stir until sugar dissolves.

8. Now, add a few drops of lemon juice and some saffron strands, and let it cook for about 5 minutes until a sticky syrup consistency is achieved.

9. Add the fried mawa balls to the sugar syrup while it's still hot and let them soak for about 20-30 minutes.

10. Garnish with some chopped almonds and serve hot or cold as desired.

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp maida
  • 2 cups of Mawa/Khoya
  • 1 cup of powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk powder
  • 2 tbsp semolina (suji)
  • 1 tsp cardamom powder
  • 2 tbsp chopped almonds
  • 2 tbsp chopped pistachios
  • A few strands of saffron
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water

Step

  • Step 1 :

    In a pan, combine sugar and water to make sugar syrup. When it starts to boil, add the saffron. Until it reaches the consistency of one thread, stir it constantly. Set aside.

  • Step 2 :

    To make a smooth and soft dough, combine maida, soft khoya, milk powder, and cardamom powder for the bati in a big bowl and mix well. Make 10 equal balls of dough and place them aside.

  • Step 3 :

    Now take all chopped nuts and soft khoya in a bowl and mix well.

  • Step 4 :

    Fill the bati balls with the prepared filling after slightly flattening them. Roll the edges into balls by bringing them together. The surface needs to be free of breaks. Slightly flatten the balls and set them aside.

  • Step 5 :

    The Mawa Batis should be fried in ghee till golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 at a time. Use a slotted spoon to drain.

  • Step 6 :

    Now fry all the balls and once done, submerge them in warmed sugar syrup. Let them soak for an hour.

  • Step 7 :

    Serve hot or cold, garnished with chopped nuts.
