2. Add chopped onions, urad dal minced garlic, and grated ginger. Add chopped green chillies if using.

4. Add turmeric powder, tamarind paste, and jaggery or brown sugar. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.

5. Let the mixture cool down to room temperature.

Ingredients

  • 3 medium-sized chopped onions
  • 5 cloves of minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp grated ginger
  • 1 dry red chilli halved and deseeded
  • 2 green chillies
  • chopped (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/4 urad dal
  • 1 tbsp tamarind paste
  • 1 tbsp jaggery or brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste

Step

  • Step 1 :

    First, wash and peel the onion and chop into small cubes. Keep it aside.

  • Step 2 :

    Heat oil in a small pan and add dry red chilli, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, onions, garlic, ginger, and green chillies.

  • Step 3 :

    Cook till onion becomes transparent then add salt, jaggery pate, and tamarind paste to it.

    Grind to smooth paste adding water.
