Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp oil or ghee
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp hing
  • 1 chopped medium tomato
  • 1 large carrot
  • 1/4 cup green peas
  • 1 chopped small red onion
  • 1 inch chopped ginger
  • 4-5 chopped large garlic cloves
  • 1/4 cup rinsed quinoa
  • 1/4 + 1/8 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup yellow moong dal
  • 1/4 cup masoor dal
  • 2-2.5 cups water
  • Chopped dhania

Step

  • Step 1 :

    Heat a pressure cooker and then add the ghee or oil.

  • Step 2 :

    Once it is heated, add the bay leaf and cumin seeds.

  • Step 3 :

    Let the seeds sizzle for few seconds and then add the hing (optional) and stir.

  • Step 4 :

    Add the ginger, garlic and onion and cook for 3 minutes until they soften.

  • Step 5 :

    Add the tomato, carrot and peas, then stir.

  • Step 6 :

    Add the dals and quinoa along with turmeric powder and salt.

  • Step 7 :

    Add water.

  • Step 8 :

    Stir everything together and close the cooker.

  • Step 9 :

    Three whistles are enough to cook the khichdi.

  • Step 10 :

    Once done let it settle down and then garnish with coriander.
