Ingredients

  • 1 kg broken lotus seeds
  • 400 g ghee
  • 200 g sugar
  • 50 g almonds
  • 25 g pista

Step

  1. Step 1:

Soak broken lotus seeds in cold water for at least 12 hours.

  2. Step 2:

Remove the hard black skin from the top and peel the green skin from the seed.

  3. Step 3:

Wash them thoroughly in running water and make a granular paste.

  4. Step 4:

Heat the ghee in a thick-bottom kadhai (not an iron vessel, otherwise the halwa will turn black).

  5. Step 5:

Add the lotus seed paste and keep cooking slowly till it turns pinkish. You can now remove the excess ghee from the mixture.

  6. Step 6:

Make a sugar syrup with the sugar and 500ml of water.

  7. Step 7:

Add the syrup and cook till the halwa is thick and well done.

  8. Step 8:

Garnish with sliced almonds and pistas.

  9. Step 9:

    Serve hot.
