Karwa Chauth is almost here. The Hindu festival where married women fast all day long for the longevity of their husbands will be celebrated on November 1 this year. There are many rituals associated with this traditional ceremony. Women begin their fast with Sargi, a meal before sunrise, and break it after sighting the moon at night. For both Sargi and fast-breaking ritual, married women snack on mathri. Fiki or saltless mathri is enjoyed as is or with homemade pickle. This mathri is also offered as bhog to Goddess Karwa on the occasion in some regions. What better than making these mathris at home?
Saltless mathris can be prepared at home using just five simple ingredients. These can be prepared in a big batch and stored for later use.
