Ingredients

  • 2 cups thick beaten rice
  • ½ teaspoon black mustard seeds
  • ½ teaspoon asafoetida
  • ½ cup of finely chopped onions
  • ½ cup of peeled potato
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-green chilli paste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoon milk
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped coriander
  • oil to cook
  • salt to taste

Step

  • Step 1 :

    Begin by placing a wok on the stove. Heat oil and add the mustard seeds.

  • Step 2 :

    When the seeds crackle, add asafoetida in it. Sauté all together on a medium flame for a few seconds.

  • Step 3 :

    Then add onions, diced potatoes, salt, turmeric powder, and a little bit of water. Mix and cook all the elements together on a medium flame for 5 minutes.

  • Step 4 :

    Meanwhile, pass the beaten rice under running water and then drain out all excess water.

  • Step 5 :

    Add beaten rice to the wok along with ginger-green chilli paste, lemon juice and milk. Cook well for 2 minutes.

  • Step 6 :

    Add coriander leaves and serve batata poha in a serving plate.
