Pani puri is India's favourite snack. In fact, we could get it deemed as the national nibble that satiates every hunger pang. The showsha of the pani puri walas/walis is honestly what adds the classic magic element to the dish. Given the hero status of this dish, we introduce you to Tapsi Upadhyay, an entrepreneur who has done wonders with it.
Meet the 21-year-old B.Tech graduate who has started a pani puri stall that makes this iconic street food dish and serves it like the wow snack that it is but with a hygienic twist. Her venture is literally called ‘Btech Pani Puri Wali’ and named after herself. She is a prime example of what the young and impressionable youth can do with their entrepreneurial ventures one pani puri at a time.
In fact, Tapsi isn’t the first one to accomplish this feat, we have another gem of a phuchka seller in the Indian market. Pravesh Pani Puri’s Pravesh is a similar entrepreneur from Kolkata and is anything but your average pani puri vendor. He is a foreign travelled pani puri wala bhaiya who offers an array of Kolkata style phuchka flavours and makes them with mineral water only to give you a taste of the mast-mast street food experience.
This brings us to highlight the fact that a decent portion of the Indian intelligentsia is now moving towards starting their own business ventures. This is a conscious choice they make as opposed to becoming just another cog in big multinational corporations.

The Societal Critique Of A Qualified Graduate & Female Pani Puri Seller
This however doesn’t come without its critique at the hands of society. The societal populace spares nobody and offers a full scale critical take on their career and life choices. The idea that only an uneducated and an underprivileged person should become a pani puri seller is a stereotype that is hard to break in the Indian landscape. What’s more, the pani puri venture is headed by a girl. This gendered role specificity in society makes for a next level taboo altogether.
