In the summer season, we wrap up our silk sarees and keep them back into the cupboard, but are you storing them the right way? Did you clean all those stains before keeping them back? Well don't worry, we have you covered. Since these days we are at home and can still make time for some pending work, we have listed a few guidelines and key points that should be followed to give those precious nine-yard wonders a longer life.
Washing
If you must wash your silks at home, then wash it in three parts. First, the pallu, then the border and last comes the rest of the body of the saree. They should all be cleaned separately. Use a mild shampoo to clean it and not a detergent as we need to have a gentle cleaning agent so as not to ruin the lustre of a silk saree. If you feel that washing is not your cup of tea then get them dry cleaned.

Folding Marks
When we fold silk sarees, the marks are formed quickly. Therefore it is important that your reverse fold your sarees every three months so that the lines are not visible. Also, while storing, keep your silk sarees separate from the rest of the fabrics.
Wrapping
It is important that you store your silks, wrapped in a muslin cloth or cotton, and do not ever hang them.
Moisture
If the monsoon season is on or if it is pouring a lot then make sure your saree doesn't retain the musty smell. Once the sun comes out, spread out the sarees in an open atmosphere which could be your living room or sitting room. Avoid any area with a direct sunlight since it might harm the silk threads.
Storage & Stain Removal
Store your precious sarees in a dark, cool place. If they have a stain, remove them by first sprinkling some powder on it, and then clean with a damp cloth and warm water. However, if you feel it is a tough stain, then you may need some petrol solution. But just a tiny bit. To get rid of mild food stains, some cotton dipped in a mid shampoo can do the trick as well.

Ironing
Whenever you have to iron the silksaree, always keep a muslin or cotton cloth between the saree and the ironing machine. This is more convenient and saves the saree from stains as well.
