Women struggle with the universal problems of not having anything to wear and the closet overflowing with unwanted clothes altogether. The truth is that there are several pieces of clothes that we no longer want to wear including old-fashioned sarees, suits, jeans, and dupattas. But that doesn’t mean that you have to throw away those clothes. With a little creativity, you can reuse your old dupatta as a jacket to pair with suits. It will give you an indo-western look that is perfect for parties and functions. You can also pair plain-coloured woollen dupattas on casuals to keep you warm and stylish. Here is a process to convert your dupatta into a jacket to add flair to your ethnic outfits.
Material Required For Converting Dupatta Into Jacket
- A dupatta (cotton or woollen, depending upon the season)
- Safety pins
- Scissors
- Needle and thread
- Decorative materials (optional)
How to Convert Dupatta Into Jacket
Step 1: Begin with choosing a dupatta that you want to convert into a jacket. It could be of any colour as per your preference. When it comes to fabric, you can either choose cotton or woollen dupatta, depending upon the season.
Step 2: Now lay the dupatta flat on the floor and bring both top ends on the centre. Secure it with a safety pin so that it shows a middle partition. Now take mid-sections from each top end and secure them too with safety pins.
Step 3: Now it's time to remove the centre pin so you can have space for the head and both arms.
Step 4: If you want to incorporate pockets in your jacket then take a matching cloth and cut two pocket layouts. Stitch them on either side of the jacket where you can keep your belongings like phone and keys.
Step 5: If you want to add charm to the shoulder line and borders of your jacket, then you can stitch gotta patti or attack some beads.
Step 6: Try it on and the bulging cloth on either side of the arms inside and secure them with safety pins. Your ethnic jacket is ready! You can pair it with a lehenga, suit, and saree.
