Be it Cannes or her own wedding reception, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja has never shied away from expressing her love for Anamika Khanna’s artistic couture pieces. Among all those Ralph & Russo’s floor-sweeping numbers, Elie Saab’s customized glam pieces and Ulyana Sergeenko’s waist-cinching dresses, Sonam always makes space for pieces created by her trusted Indian couturier.
When talking of fashion designers and their muses, the glorious list includes the likes of Audrey Hepburn and Hubert de Givenchy, Catherine Deneuve and Yves Saint-Laurent, Jane Birkin and Hermès. And inching into this exclusive clique are Sonam and Anamika.
Kolkata based Anamika is revered for her unconventional take on artisanal Indian couture and commands a loyal following among Bollywood’s elite too. Here are the times when Sonam donned Anamika and was a vision of perfection.
When Sonam Took Saree To Cannes Red Carpet
Ms. Ahuja got straight away to the business at Cannes. Her initial appearances were not just defined by ball dresses, but she infused the red carpet with some ‘desi’ flavour with her saree drapes. The first one that made it to media headlines was a light beige drape paired with traditional choker. And the second one came with a gold floor-length jacquard paired with a white saree and a nose ring.
When She Wore A Turban!
Sonam’s fashion scape is purely eclectic, punctuated with the right amount of drama. At her recent Cannes outing, she took it to the beach in her bohemian avatar, decked up in a red and yellow Anamika ensemble. And to top it up, she paired it with a turban. As if the drama was missing the breezy oversized cape added to the look.
When The Bride Wore Copper-Grey
Though Sonam Kapoor juggled between the reds, ivorys, and gold for her wedding ceremonies, she went hands down classic for her reception. Once again posing faith in her trusted couturier, she wore a rather toned down Anamika Khanna lehenga with a cape. She took a detour from the red tones and instead picked up this copper-grey ensemble.
When Sonam Conjured Up Some Old Bollywood Glamour
Being understated though might not be a part of Sonam’s fashion vocab. For a couture week attendance, she chose to conjure up some old Bollywood glamour in a classic Bengali drape, created by Anamika. With a braided bun, minimal jewels, and dull beige saree, for her, it was a winning look.
Greys Are After All Not That Boring
You don’t have to be decked up in flashy hues to make a statement. And Sonam lives by that rule. For a red carpet outing in Australia, she slipped into an edgy three-piece ensemble, created by Anamika. This straight off the runway piece was defined by its scalloped top and a floor-sweeping jacquard.
