India's first full-time female Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is one inspiring woman inPM Narendra Modi's 2.0 cabinet in more than one way. Besides being the first full-time female Defence Minister earlier and now a finance minister who impressed all with her first speech budget speech, Sitharaman's handloom saree collection is inspiring! If you haven't noticed, she likes wearing subtle yet classy handlooms to work and we could not let that go. So, in the honour of our minister we would like this opportunity to explore her wardrobe and here is a start!
Kalamkari Blouse & Cotton Contrast Saree
Sitharaman looks really graceful in this light bootie work cotton saree and red contrast blouse in Kalamkari print. The blouse does not have any bootie work like the nine yards she is flaunting but stands out with a mudra print. Sure she hardly wears much jewellery but even a kada and chain small stud earrings are enough when at work. So keep it simple yet graceful!
Ikat It Is!
This seems to be an Ikat saree which is a lot of binding work. This is pure handloom in purple and we are loving this contrast blouse in blue. Simple yet again but the woman sure knows her handloom!
Offwhite
This saree may not be for the young blood but fits the bill for those who have wisdom just like Sitharaman. What we like is the block print in peacock design. The only bling, if we can call that bling that is, is the thin little golden border.

Jamdani All The Way
I am loving this Jamdani saree in blue, white and black. The small patches of design look pretty with the black border taking away the limelight. Sitharaman has carried it simply because of "occupational hazards" but you can wear this saree with silver jewellery. Get a dholki necklace and wear studs in your ears or wear long jhumkas with a kada and you are good to go.
Kota Doria
This maroon kota doria saree is the winner! She looks so graceful and elegant in this saree with light golden border. The golden block print looks so good on it, right? Paired with a plain blouse with little work just on the sleeves 'dil legaya' and is certainly inspiring!
The Take-Away
Handloom sarees are the best! We Indians are rich in art and our craft is on the point with so much to offer for every individual. So, what are you waiting for? The sale season is on and we can save up some money even if we want those expensive drapes... If you are not sure about its authenticity then go directly to the weavers and see for yourself how they work and create magic with their hard work.
