The dress code of flight attendants has followed suit, with numerous case studies demonstrating a close relationship between flight attendants' history and their dress code.

Flight attendants were all qualified medical practitioners in the early days of flying, and they were always prepared to manage any medical crises (or otherwise) that arose on board. They were also required to meet strict height and BMI requirements in order to be hired.

Early 30s To 50s

Military-style dress standards were popular in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Caps and skirts that reached past the knees were the standard, with a focus on portraying professionalism.

With the passage of time, airlines began to innovate, and by the mid-1940s, cabin crews were wearing tailored blazers, midi-pencil skirts, and little heeled shoes. Caps were replaced with hats to provide the impression of a reputable and well-dressed customer.

Mini-Skirts With Knee Length Boots

Cabin crews wore miniskirts and knee-length boots during the late 1950s and virtually the entire 1960s. This was done to increase their attraction to male customers, assuring that the airline's profits would skyrocket. The clothing code also included brightly coloured belts.

Knee Length Skirt For Professional Look

The waistcoat and sleeveless jumper had become standard by the 1980s. The little skirts were removed, but the heels were not. Knee-length skirts were adopted, which emanated more professionalism. The standard for males is pressed suit trousers with a blazer and a white shirt.

Modern Day Uniform

Air India, the country's official carrier, has undergone a transformation. Female cabin crew members at Air India can choose from three different uniforms. The airline kept the traditional sari as part of the air hostess uniform but added Kurtis, churidars, and pants to give its flight attendants a more modern look.
