HZ Educate: 5 Scholarship Programmes For Indian Students Who Want To Study Abroad

Studying abroad is a big decision, and a factor to consider is money. Academic fees, cost of living and other expenses in a developed country like the USA, the UK, Australia, Canada and Germany can leave a dent in one’s account.

UGC Chairperson M Jagadesh Kumar was quoted by the Hindustan Times saying that migration is on the rise around the globe. “In 2014, there were about 200 million students in higher education institutions globally. By 2030, this number is going to double,” he added. Kumar also said a majority of this number will comprise Indian students.

In February 2023, the Education Ministry submitted data in the parliament which stated that more than seven lakh students applied to study abroad in 2022.

However, not everyone can afford to study abroad, but it should not stop a student from fulfilling their dream. There are scholarships and programmes in which students can apply for. Fulbright-Nehru Master's Fellowships

Fulbright-Nehru Master's Fellowships are given to Indian students, who show exemplary talent and have good educational qualifications. The benefits under the fellowship include economic class flight tickets, a J-1 USA student visa, coverage of living and other expenditures and sickness and accidental coverages.

Students applying for the fellowship can apply to study abroad in fields like International Legal Studies, Economics, Journalism and Mass Communication, Public Administration, Public Health, Gender Studies, Arts and Culture Management, etc.

Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowships

Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowships is awarded to students currently pursuing their PhD in India. The duration of this scholarship varies from 6-9 months.

The applicant is entitled to J-1 visa support, round-trip in the economy class, monthly allowances and sickness and accidental coverage. The fields of study covered under this programme are Public Policy, Physics, Public Health, Computer Science, Economics, History, Gender Studies, and Sociology, etc.

National Overseas Scholarship

National Overseas Scholarship is for students who want to apply to universities in Germany (Best Immigration Policies For Indians), the US, Canada, etc. You can apply for International Commerce Accounting and Finance, Engineering and Management, Humanities and Social Science, Pure Science, and Applied Science and Agricultural Science and Medicine.

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree is for students who want to apply for integrated master’s programs funded by the European Union (EU). It covers Business Management, History, Psychology, Nursing and Health and Archaeology among other fields of study.

Agatha Harrison Memorial Fellowship

Agatha Harrison Memorial Fellowship is funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD). It offers scholarships in Political Science, Economics and History. The applicant must have 60% or above marks till PhD, their age must be between 30-40 and must have a teaching experience of more than three years.
