Shimla is a hot destination for tourists especially for those people who need a long weekend getaway, a break from the hectic work life. One thing we all quickly do once we fix our destination is that we search for a place where we can eat, chill and have a relaxation time besides the usual tourist-y itinerary. Therefore this time we picked up Shimla for you and took help of some colleagues who belong to the city and compiled the list of best cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy a good view along with good food.

If you are more of solo traveller and want some peace while you chomp on some as light as air cream rolls, then this is your cafe. It has a stunning location as it is near the Ridge overlooking the Himalayas. Do you know what is interesting here? Since Himachal has open prison policies, authorities have handed the running of the café to jail inmates. The food, all prepared in the prison bakery, is limited to snacks like burgers, pizzas and pastries, but is attractively priced, fresh and tasty. One place you have to visit!

Ridge, Takka Bench, 10 am–8 pm

Dimsum

Momos and dimsums are like first love for many of us. And nothing is more comforting than the "Himalaya Ki gaud", "amazing Mausam" and hot, piping delicious momos! This is a 25-seater restaurant run by a Chinese family which serves mouth-watering chilly chicken and chowmein and obviously the momos. The best part? They have Happy Hours on Momos! Get a plate at half the rate (Rs75) from 3-6pm, Monday to Friday.

Next to Baljees, Middle Bazar, The Mall; Noon—9.30pm

Ashiana, Goofa Restaurant & Bar

This place too is placed in the ridge area of Mall Road just opposite the church and gives you a beautiful view.  You can enjoy the view from wherever you sit, as they have seating both indoors and outdoors. What must you try? Cream of mushroom, chicken chowmien and they also serve some good dal makhani, kadhaai pan

Now, this is where you head for a scrumptious breakfast and the superb view. The yellow windowpanes, art on the walls, the entire vibe is so happy and it certainly uplifts your mood. They serve English and Israeli breakfast till noon. Their bread pizza is what I dig as it is made on bread. They serve crepes and waffles, made from buckwheat, pasta, toasties, and sandwiches... they have something for everyone. Watch the sunset here while you treat your taste buds to the crunchy pizza slice perhaps?.

34, The Mall, 9.30 am–10 pm

Indian Coffee House

This particular coffee house, like many others across the country, was started during the 1950s, when retrenchment threatened to cut off the livelihoods of many workers. It was during this crisis that the then PM, Jawaharlal Nehru, allowed workers to start coffee houses that would be owned, run and managed by workers from the local communities. The first such coffee house was started in Delhi near Kirori Mal College, and many others followed suit in Shimla, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Jaipur and Allahabad. #indiancoffeehouse #shimladiaries❤️ #happiness #traveldiaries #travelgram

an authentically rustic place it is!! The ambiance is very simple the food service is fast. The food menu is plain, simple and very pocket-friendly. It feels very cosy to be in Shimla sipping a homley cup of coffee here. I would definitely recommend this place.

1, The, Mall Rd, Lower Bazar, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, 8 am – 10 pm

Café Sol

If you are a huge group then this is where you have to head to. There is so much for everyone, on this menu that you will not be disappointed. Pick from Italian, Continental, Lebanese. We recommend Mexican food, the fajitas, enchiladas, and tacos. Oh, and they also serve alcohol peeps!

Hotel Combermere, Mall Road, 11 am–11 pm
