Let’s be honest: by the time April rolls around, the Bengaluru heat starts to feel personal, and the mere thought of navigating another ‘Silk Board special’ in the afternoon sun is enough to make anyone stir-crazy. Fortunately, the calendar is doing us a massive favour this year. With Good Friday falling on April 3, 2026, we’ve been handed a glorious three-day window to actually get out of town and remember what fresh air tastes like.
Whether you’re craving a misty mountain morning or a quiet sunset by the sea, you don’t have to venture halfway across the country to find some proper headspace. While half the city will likely be queuing at the airport, the smart money is on a road trip. From the rugged Western Ghats to the ancient ruins of the north, here are seven of the best spots to pull a vanishing act this long weekend.

There’s a reason half of Bengaluru decamps to Coorg the moment a Friday off appears on the calendar. By early April, the estates are thick with the scent of coffee blossoms. If you’re the restless type, the trek up Tadiandamol is a classic, but there’s zero shame in just finding a quiet homestay near Abbey Falls and doing absolutely nothing for three days straight.

If your idea of a holiday involves a pair of hiking boots and some actual altitude, set your sights on Mullayanagiri. As the highest point in Karnataka, the views from the top are genuinely breathtaking, provided you beat the crowds to the summit. It’s a bit more rugged than Coorg and perfect if you want to spend your Saturday exploring the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary.

Just across the state line, Wayanad is all about deep, ancient greens. The drive through the Bandipur forest is half the fun; you’ll almost certainly spot a few elephants if you time it right. Once you're there, the Edakkal Caves are a fascinating detour into prehistory, though you'll need to put in a bit of a climb to see the carvings.

Yes, the main town can feel like a bit of a tourist trap, but the drive up those 36 hairpin bends remains a rite of passage. Stick to the outskirts like Coonoor or Wellington to find the real charm. A ride on the heritage toy train is mandatory, it’s slow, loud, and arguably the best way to see the Nilgiris.

For those who find the bigger hill stations a bit too ‘mainstream,’ Sakleshpur is the answer. It’s famous for the star-shaped Manjarabad Fort and some brilliant off-beat railway treks. It has a much more laid-back, rural vibe that’s perfect if you just want to unplug the phone and watch the mist roll over the Western Ghats.

If you can’t face the chaos of North Goa, Gokarna is your best bet. Om Beach and Kudle Beach still have that slightly stuck-in-the-70s feel that’s becoming hard to find. It’s a bit of a trek from Bengaluru, but waking up to the sound of the Arabian Sea beats the sound of honking horns on the Ring Road any day of the week.

If you haven't been to Hampi, use this weekend to fix that. It’s a surreal landscape of giant boulders and 14th-century ruins that looks like something off another planet. Rent a bicycle, cross the river in a coracle (one of those round bamboo boats), and watch the sun go down from Hemakuta Hill. It’s the ultimate way to get some perspective.
