Who doesn't love sweets, especially when they are Bengali? Just like you and me, Anushka Sharma has a few favourites. Here is a list of some.

kolkata sweets anushka

She is fit and a celeb, it does not mean that she doesn't eat sweets. Anushka Sharma is a fan of Bengali sweets sold in Kolkata. Why? They are made of chhenna which is basically paneer or cottage cheese, making them better than the pure sugar churn outs. Whenever she is in Kolkata, Anushka gets these sweets and since she has a lot of team members hailing from Kolkata, some sweets keep coming in at least twice a week. Let's take a look at what she loves and what you must try if in Kolkata.

Anushka told HerZindagi that she does not have much interest in sweets, but Bengal, Kolkata sweets are very good because they are often made of Chhenna and there is less sugar in it. 'I eat three or four together at the same time. There are several members in my team, who are from Kolkata, once a month, the desserts come here, these people keep feeding me.

One of her favourites, this exotic Bengali sweet, is made of mini rasgullas, grated khoya and powdered sugar. Called Raskadam in Kolkata, it is sinful treat with two layers of dessert heaven.

Nikuti

Made of chenna, flour, ghee and cardamom, these are deep-fried oblong balls. After keeping them immersed in sugar syrup for few hours, dip them in condensed milk and savour when cold. They look like oblong gulab jamuns but it is not the same.

#ShubhoMahalaya #KhirerChop Swipe left for more yumminess. It’s that time of the year when the entire earth dances with euphoria. Every nook & corner is filled with the perfume of incense. The sky too is decked up with blushing clouds. The night #jasmine is in full bloom covering the tree with its orange centered flowers & enveloping the neighborhood with its intoxicating fragrance. . . Every iota of the #earth is bedecked with #charm & #dancing in #happiness as they all get ready to welcome the #mother #Goddess , who is #Shakti as she embodies the power inherent in all mothers, #MahishasurMardini or slayer of the ferocious demon Mahishasur . . . I too leave the lap of slumber with the voice of Birendra Krishna Bhadra evoking the Goddess Durga with the all familiar “Namo Devyai maha-devyai sivayai sa-tatam namah,Namah Prakrtyai bhadrayai niyatah pranatah sma tam.”..... The ecstasy that surrounds me has caught my feet in its stride which seem to tango as I walk all around the house with a large smile glowing on my lips & a heart full of happiness, peace & gratitude. . . To celebrate the coming of the Mother, I am making Khirer Chop, a traditional Bengali sweet. Khirer Chop is a fried dumpling with a filling of milk solid & is finally doused into a sugar syrup. A bite into the Khirer Chop takes you into a world of decadence as a sugary liquid prances out onto your tongue with a burst of nuttiness followed by the creamy gooey kheer or milk solid. Surely this is food heaven. This sweet is in #popular demand in my House always. Though not good for the calorie conscious, but who counts calories when it is festivals galore & #DurgaPujo. Hop on to my Blog & get the recipe. This sweet will add a tinge on Bengali fervour to your #celebrations. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #nomnom #foodporn #foodgasm # foodpic #foodpicoftheday #thefeedfeed #foodgawker #ndtvgoodtimes #Indianfestival #betterbutter #foodblogger #dubaiblogger #Indiansweet #tasty #foodideas #foodie

It is a chop stuffed with kheer which is lightly tossed in sugar syrup. It is made with flour, suji, nutmeg, milk, sugar and bread combined with mishti. It takes a long time and a lot of love to prepare it.

Mishti Doi

This is a no brainer! A light and sweet blend of milk, yogurt and coarse brown sugar, it is made like we make yogurt. Served on occasions, this dessert tastes best when served chilled.
