Let's take you through the history of this beautiful temple and why to visit this powerful place.
Kasar Devi Temple
The Kasar Devi Temple is located in the Uttarakhand village of Kasar Devi, close to Almora. The Kasar Devi temple, which honours the Kasar Devi goddess (a form of Goddess Durga), is the village's most prominent landmark. The temple was built in the 2nd century CE. At the entrance to the village, near the main road, there is an alleyway that goes up to the temple. The temple is divided into two distinct groups, one dedicated to the Devi, and the other to Lord Shiva and Bairava. The akhand jyoti in the main temple has been blazing continuously for years. Also, it has a havan kund (dhuni) where wood logs are burned there. Ashes of Dhuni are believed to be extremely potent and capable of curing even mental patients.
History Of Kasar Devi Temple
When Swami Vivekananda travelled to Kasar Devi in the 1890s, meditated there, and wrote about his experience in his diaries, Kasar Devi first came to public attention. A pioneer in the study of Tibetan Buddhism named Walter Evans-Wentz, who later translated The Tibetan Book of the Dead, spent some time here.
In the 1930s, the Tibetan Buddhist Lama Anagarika Govinda and Li Goutami, as well as the Danish mystic Sunyata Baba (Alfred Sorensen), came and stayed here for more than three decades. Numerous Western Tibetan Buddhists, writers, and bohemian artists made it their home; mystic saint Anandamayi Ma even paid a visit. Following the hippie movement of the 1960s and 1970s, the place became famous and was visited by D. H. Lawrence, Cat Stevens, George Harrison, and Robert Thurman who came to this place to seek peace and to meditate.

The thing that makes this temple an extraordinary place is that this temple is positioned on the earth’s Van Allen Belt. Due to gaps in the bands of radiation, the area around the Kasar Devi Temple has a large geomagnetic field. The Kasar Devi temple in Almora is one of the sites included in the Van Allen Belt, along with Machu Picchu in Peru and Stonehenge in England. As a result, there is a significant magnetic field present near the temple. Nothing compares to being at peace with oneself in a picture-perfect setting surrounded by pine and deodar trees. You experience a higher level of inner healing and renewal when you meditate here.
