Valley of Geysers

Located on the Kamchatka Peninsula, the Valley of Geysers is the second largest geyser field in the world. It was discovered in 1941 by scientist Tatyana Ustinova. Since the time, this place has become a popular tourist attraction in Kamchatka and of course, it is of great importance to the scientists as well.

Mount Elbrus

This mountain is located in the Caucasus Mountain Range in Southern Russia. It is one of the Seven Summits, the highest summits on each of the planet’s seven continents, which attracts a number of mountain climbers. It was formed from a volcano which is apparently dormant at the moment with no eruptions in record till now. How to reach here? A cable car system can take visitors as high as 3,800 meters (12,500 ft). So make sure your package includes this trip.

Sochi

Called a “beach resort”, Sochi is a coastal town located on the black sea at the foot of the Caucasus Mountains. This favourite vacation spot of the Russians hosted the 2014 Olympics. During summers, travellers enjoy swimming here and in the winter season, people take to skiing. Some of the popular attractions here include Mount Akhun, Vorontsovka Caves, Olympic Park, and Riviera Dolphinarium (the largest aquarium in Russia)

Trans-Siberian Railway

Part of the longest railway system in the world, this train runs from Moscow to Vladivostok, a city near Russia’s borders with China and North Korea. It began in 1891 thanks to Tsar Alexander III and was later completed by his son, Tsar Nicholas II, in 1916. The line is known as the route of the tsars. This train is mostly used as overnight accommodation from one destination to the next.

Red Square, Moscow

Now, this is in the center of Moscow which is home to beautiful cathedrals, museums, and government buildings. This place is visited by millions of tourists thanks to its rich cultural and historic heritage. Some of the must-visit spots in this red town include St. Basil’s Cathedral, The Iberian Gate, Kremlin Wall, Statue of Minin and Pozharsky, Kazan Cathedral, Lenin Mausoleum, State Hall Museum and City Hall.

Manpupuner Rock Formations

Among the most spectacular places to see in Russia, these rocks at first look like the work of aliens. They have a unique shape of which the origin is still unknown. These seven pillars are nothing short of an enigma. As per some theories, these were formed due to some activities of nature, whereas some others say that these were built by ancestors for spiritual reasons. Some even think that this place is a meeting point of the spirits.

Kizhi Island

Located in Karelia, in Northwestern Russia that borders Finland and the White Sea, this island is known for its open-air museum. Karelians have lived in the region since the 13th century. It is kind of sad as they are torn between the cultures of the East and the West. The museum is home to the 120-foot high Church of the Transfiguration of Our Savior, a structure made famous by its 22 domes. It also has dozens of wooden houses, windmills, chapels, and barns.

Hermitage Museum

This museum located in St Petersburg was founded in 1764 by Catherine the Great. It highlights a collection of over 3 million items spanning the globe. It is divided into six historic buildings including the Winter Palace, a former residence of Russian emperors.

Saint Basil's Cathedral

Built between 1554 and 1561 and situated in the heart of Moscow, St. Basil’s Cathedral has been among the top tourist attractions in Russia. It is not the building’s interior artifacts that attract visitors, but rather the cathedral’s distinctive architecture. Designed to resemble the shape of a bonfire in full flame, the architecture is not only unique to the period in which it was built but to any subsequent period. There is no other structure on earth quite like St. Basil’s Cathedral.

Suzdal
