History Of Amarnath Temple
According to ancient legends, it is said that Shiva left his bull Nandi in Pahalgam (Bail Gaon). He freed the Moon from his hair at Chandanwari. He let his snake go on the shores of Lake Sheshnag. He left his son Ganesha at Mahagunas Parvat (Mahaganesh Mountain). Shiva left the five elements; Earth, Water, Air, Fire, and Sky at Panjtarni. Shiva performed the Tandava Dance as a representation of his sacrifice of the material world. Finally, Shiva and Parvati entered the Amarnath Cave, where they both materialised as an ice Lingam. Shiva transformed into a lingam made of ice, and Parvati into a yoni made of rock. According to the legends, it is said that Sage Bhrigu (rishi) was the first to find the Amarnath cave.
