Dharmendra, The Real He Man Story: The Man Who Started the Shirtless Trend in Bollywood

Even at 89, Dharmendra continues to command love and respect like few others in Indian cinema. Known for his simplicity, charm and magnetic screen presence, he remains the ultimate symbol of strength and humility. But the journey of this ‘He-Man’ wasn’t an easy one. Born in a small village in Ludhiana, Punjab, Dharmendra’s fascination with films began early. His first big break came unexpectedly when he sent his photograph to Filmfare magazine for a talent contest in 1958. That one decision changed his life forever. Dharmendra’s real-life love story with Hema Malini remains one of Bollywood’s most talked-about romances. The two first met on the sets of ‘Tum Haseen Main Jawaan’ in 1970. Their chemistry was undeniable, and over time, it blossomed into a deep bond. Despite being married to Prakash Kaur, Dharmendra chose to follow his heart.
