Regarding the pursuit of a perfect, glowing complexion, regular facials can make all the difference. "Facials deliver the advantage of professional-grade products and an array of equipment that can deeply cleanse, instantly firm, lift, and add volume, and visibly reduce irritation," says Ellen McGinnis, corporate director of spa at Omni Hotels & Resorts. "This is a must to obtain and maintain your specific skincare goals, something you cannot realistically do on your own."

To navigate this world of facials and find the perfect match for your skin type and needs, we spoke to a New Delhi-based dermatologist, Dr Nidhi Gupta.

The Classic Facial

Your average facial will include steps for cleansing, exfoliating, masking, and massage. They are treatments that cater to both relaxation and skin results, normally involving aromatherapeutic oils, scalp and hand massages, and soothing music.

The Hydration Facial

For dry skin, a hydration facial is needed. "These facials focus on ingredients like hyaluronic acid, collagen, and oils, along with sheet masks and ampoules to drive the moisture deeper into the skin," says the Women's Health website.

The Acne Facial

If you have regular breakouts, an acne facial is the answer. Your aesthetician will take her time to work on extractions and may even add in bacteria-killing LED light therapy. Finally, calming masks and ice are applied to bring down inflammation and redness.

The Anti-Ageing Facial

One of the top services is an anti-ageing facial, which can tighten skin and soften fine lines and wrinkles. In addition to gentle exfoliation and professional-grade anti-ageing products, the aesthetician may incorporate NuFace devices for toning and visibly lifting the eyes, lips, and face, says Hubain-Gilbert, a spa specialist.

The Glow Facial

Exfoliation is the way to give your glow an instant boost, which is usually done by using alpha hydroxy acid peels or microdermabrasion treatments. "Hydrafacials use a special device that provides microdermabrasion while flushing out impurities from the pores," explains Dr Gupta.
