Thanks to celebrities like Alia Bhatt, and Kriti Sanon ice therapy has now turned into a buzzword. Videos of celebrated names from the showbiz dunking their face in a bowl full of ice water are all over the internet and we are all trying our bit to make their skin preps part of our routines too.
If you too are planning to make ice therapy a part of your skincare regime, you have landed on the right page. Is rubbing ice on the skin safe, what happens when you dunk your face in an ice bowl, will the ice therapy have any side effects? We asked our skincare expert, dermatologist Dr. Ritika Dhingra, Advanced Cosmetology Expert, and Founder, Lux Clinic.
Is It Okay To Directly Use Ice On Your Face?
Dermatologist Dr. Dhingra shared that it isn't safe to use an ice cube directly on the face. She said, "If you want to use ice for your skin, just dunk your face in a bowl of ice for two to three seconds or you can take an ice cube covered in a cotton cloth and tap it all over your face but this too shouldn't be done for more than three to five seconds."
How To Use Ice With A Cloth?
Take an ice cube and wrap it in a clean soft cloth. Gently pat your skin with this cloth. Make sure you don't hold the ice on your skin for more than a few seconds. As the expert suggested, it isn't a great idea to use ice on your skin for a long time. Make sure you limit the time. Also, try to give breaks to allow your skin to return to normal temperature. If you experience pain, numbness, or discomfort, discontinue immediately.
