Whether you want morning sunshine or moonlit glow, your skin's needs change with the clock. Let us learn how you should tailor your skincare routine to the unique demands of the time of the day with our expert, Mr Harish Singla, CSM, Forever Living Products India.
Dr Singla shared, “Skincare routine is not about habit; rather, it should be a matter of necessity toward healthy and glowy skin. Both morning and nighttime routines hold equal importance and address the basic needs of the skin. Below is a simple guide to set up your optimal skincare routine when you need it to be.”
Morning Skincare: Preparing and Protecting
“It's your morning skincare routine, after all, aimed at preparing the skin for the day and protecting it from outside stressors such as pollution and UV radiation,” said the expert.
- Begin with a Gentle Cleanse: “This will wash away any sweat, oil, or impurities that have collected overnight without stripping your skin of its natural moisture,” he shared.
- Hydrate Your Skin: “Apply lightweight moisturiser to hydrate. Opt for products with ingredients that help retain moisture rather than making it greasy,” he added.
- Apply Sunscreen: “Sunscreen is the most essential step in your morning routine. Use a broad-spectrum SPF of at least 30 for maximum protection from UV-rays that cause early ageing,” said Dr Harish.
- Minimal Makeup for a Natural Look: “If you use makeup, keep it light and breathable to allow your skin to stay fresh and comfortable throughout the day,” he states.
Night Skincare: Repairing and Rejuvenating
Dr Singla mentioned that your skin focuses on repair and renewal at night. Therefore, your nighttime routine should provide nourishment and address specific skin concerns, if any.

- Double Cleanse for a Fresh Start: “Begin with an oil-based cleanser to dissolve makeup and sunscreen. Then, end with a gentle water-based cleanser to wash away dirt and impurities,” shared Dr Singla.
- Apply a Treatment or Serum: He continued, “Serums or treatments containing antioxidants, retinol, or peptides are best used at night when applied to address your skin's specific needs. These can potentially repair damage in the skin and improve its texture.”
- Moisturise Deeply: “Choose a richer moisturiser for your nighttime routine to restore your skin's hydration levels and reinforce the skin barrier,” advises Dr Harish.
- Care for Sensitive Areas: “Apply a nourishing eye cream to reduce puffiness and fine lines, and a hydrating lip balm to keep your lips soft and smooth,” he added.
Why Separate Routines Matter?
“Your skin’s needs vary throughout the day, It needs protection during the morning and repair during the night. Thus, it is usually good to be consistent and balanced so that your skin stays healthy, radiant, and resilient. With dedication and the right techniques, a tailored skincare routine can make all the difference in achieving your best skin yet. Prioritise your skincare as an essential form of self-care, day and night!” concluded Dr Harish Singla.
