If you have acne-prone skin, you must have heard about salicylic acid quite a few times. But did you try it yet? Salicylic acid has become one of the most talked-about ingredients lately. This one is known to be the best remedy for acne. You will commonly find this ingredient on acne skin care products today.
Salicylic acid belongs to the family of chemical exfoliants called beta hydroxy acid. It is derived from the bark of the willow tree. This one ingredient has changed the beauty game recently but there is so much you need to know about this acid that dermatologists today rely on.
Using a product packed with salicylic acid, however, won't work. It is crucial to know how you should make it a part of your beauty routine to get results out of it. If not used correctly, salicylic acid can have a negative impact on our skin.
So, we spoke to Dr. Noopur Jain, MD Dermatology, and asked her to share all about salicylic acid, right from its benefits to usage to side effects. Read on.
Salicylic acid should be used in a small amount to the affected area and rubbed into the skin gently. It can be applied 2-3 times a day or as directed by the dermatologist.
The expert shared that salicylic acid is like a magic potion for your skin and thus it can be used every day. However, it’s important to first test how it works on your skin by applying it once a day and see if it causes any irritation or damage according to your skin type. If not, you can then use it more than once a day with different products like face washes, toners, serums, etc.
