Holi 2024 is around the corner. This is one of the most fun festivals that is celebrated all across India. The best part about it is that we get to play with colours and water with our friends and family. Even though rubbing these chemical-based colours on the face and body can be fun, it has a lot of harmful effects on the skin.
To get your skin Holi ready, Sanath Dutta, Herbal Solution Expert & Co-founder of Eliea Wellness has suggested some easy skincare tips to follow before and after Holi.
Holi Pre-Celebration Skincare Tips
Before the festival of Holi arrives, prepare your skin using these simple tips:
- Avoid getting facial or any other type of skin treatment as it may cause irritation to the skin. Instead, do a mild facial massage using light oil for hydration.
- You can make a turmeric and gram flour paste and apply it on your face regularly before the festivities.
- Make sure to apply a light moisturiser and sunscreen.
- Exfoliate your lips with DIY lip scrub made using sugar and lime for soft lips.
- Drink enough water for internal and external hydration.

Holi Post-Celebration Skincare Tips
After Holi, this is how you need to treat your skin:
- Gently cleanse your skin to get rid of colours and dirt. Go for a mild, sulphate-free cleanser to restore your face’s natural moisture.
- Next, apply some face scrub to remove the dead skin cells. Rub the gentle exfoliant on your skin in a circular motion. Scrub your elbows, knees, and feet too.
- You can apply a face mask to replenish your skin’s freshness. Make sure the mask consists of ingredients like aloe vera, cucumber, and chamomile extract that are known for their anti-inflammatory properties.
- Apply the face mask evenly on your skin avoiding the eye and lip area. Keep it on for 15-20 minutes, then wash it off gently. Pat dry your face and apply a gentle moisturiser.
- Further, apply a hydrating body lotion on your body to soothe the skin. Focus more on areas including elbows, knees, and heels to maintain moisture levels.
