The CosRX Snail Mucin was all over my Instagram feed, with influencers and regular people alike calling it a Korean beauty must-have. It was all the hype around it that made me buy it. I had a friend pick up a bottle of CosRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence for me while on a trip to South Korea. Unlike a lot of other products that I don’t fully grasp the hype about, this one worked well for my skin.
The ingredient is often something that makes people feel eeky, or grossed out. However, it’s indeed perfectly safe for skin and has been much talked about in recent times for its hydration benefits. If you can get over the mental block of using snail mucin, the product is actually quite normal and easy to use.
In this edition of HZ Tried & Tested, I decode in detail how the CosRx Snail Mucin worked for my skin.
CosRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence Review: Hydration for Dry Skin
I have combination skin, with a somewhat oily T-zone, but my cheeks tend ot get dry very often. I also live in Delhi, which has very hot but dry summers and freezing winters. I tried the snail mucin over six months, covering both seasons – the fag end of summers and the start of a chilly winter.

I used it as a replacement for serum, about 3-4 times a week. I would start by cleansing my face, followed by a toner, and then the Snail mucin, and I’d follow it up with a light-weight moisturiser. It wasn’t as sticky or slimy as I had imagined it would be, but a lovely, not-too-thin but also not thick consistency. There’s no added fragrance.
It got absorbed quickly into my skin. I only need 2-3 pumps for my full face, so the product ends up lasting a long time.
And in a week or two of using it, I felt like I had visibly hydrated, plump skin. I had been using other toners and serums for hydration, but I do feel like this product made the most difference to my skin, especially in winter.
It also helped add some elasticity to my skin and helped repair damaged skin during harsh temperatures. My skin felt dewy and moisturised when I woke up, after using the product at night.
Snail Secretion Filtrate is the main ingredient in it, but it also has a bit of other ingredients like Betaine and Butylene Glycol, which aid hydration and absorption.
