How And When To Worship

Vastu Tips For Worshipping At Home

  • Choosing the right time to worship is crucial. There are five auspicious times in a day when you can perform the worship. “The first worship should be done in Brahma Muhurta. After this, worship should be done after sunrise i.e. between 9 and 10 am. Then, worship God for the third time between 12 and 1 in the afternoon and close the doors of the temple till 4 pm. After this, do the evening aarti and worship God before Shayan at night,” said Pandit Ji.
  • Whenever you start puja at home, it is said that you should worship Lord Ganesha first. “However, in the scriptures, it is mentioned that Surya, Ganesha, Durga, Shiva, and Vishnu are Panchdev. Whenever you start worship, first remember these five and worship them. This brings you prosperity,” shared the expert.
  • In Hinduism, the Tulsi plant is considered revered and sacred. You are advised to add basil leaves to the Bhog/Prasad you offer to gods and goddesses but do not offer the leaves of the Tulsi plant to Lord Shiva, Ganesha, and Bhairava. “Also, do not pluck Tulsi leaves on Sunday, Ekadashi, Dwadashi, Sankranti, or in the evening as this can upset Goddess Lakshmi and bring you financial troubles,” added Pandit Ji.

How To Worship at home

  • You must face the east or north direction while worshipping. “Also, during the Puja, light one lamp of ghee and one of oil but keep in mind that you should never light a lamp with another lamp. Anyone who does this may have to face health issues. Along with this, sitting on a seat made of wool while performing Puja is considered auspicious and after the Puja is over, one must stand at the same place and do parikrama three times,” explained Kailash Ji.
  • “The idols in the home temple should be of a height of 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, or 11 inches only. Along with this, idols or pictures of standing Ganesha, Maa Saraswati, and Goddess Lakshmi should not be kept in the house,” said Kailash Ji.
  • Narayan Ji shared, “Remove any broken idol kept in the temple of your house immediately. You can donate the broken idols to a temple or immerse them in a holy river.”
  • Pandit Ji continued, “Gangajal is considered holy in Hinduism and its use is mandatory during the worship of God. Therefore, Gangajal should always be kept in a copper vessel. Keeping it in a plastic bottle is extremely inauspicious.”
