Although traditionally conducted at holy places like Gaya or Varanasi, Pind Daan can also be performed at home with devotion and following proper procedures. Manyyaa Adlakkha, Founder Vastu Guru Manyyaa, Numerologist, Astrologer and Reiki healer shared a step-by-step guide on how you can do Pind Daan at home.

Here's how you can do it:

Preparation For The Ritual

Before performing pind daan, cleanliness and purity of the mind and body are important. Take a bath and wear clean, preferably white clothes. The ritual is ideally performed on an Amavasya (new moon day) or during Pitru Paksha, 16 days dedicated to paying homage to ancestors.

Black Sesame Seeds: These are important as they symbolize the removal of sins.

Performing Pind Daan

Begin the ritual by sitting in a clean and quiet place, preferably near a tulsi plant or under a peepal tree. Spread a piece of cloth or kusha grass on the ground. Take the pind (rice balls) in your hands and offer them to the ancestors by placing them on the grass. While doing this, chant mantras like "Om Pitrubhyo Namah", asking for peace and forgiveness for your ancestors.

Once the pind is placed, sprinkle water and sesame seeds over the offering. You can also light incense sticks and offer flowers to the pinds. This is followed by offering water (known as tarpan) while chanting the names of your ancestors, expressing gratitude and seeking their blessings.
