Why Is Washing Hair During Periods ProhibitedIn Scriptures?
While you’re menstruating, your body ejects the impure blood from your body. According to the legend, women should avoid washing their hair or even bathing while they are on their periods.
In ancient times, people didn’t have proper arrangements for bathing and water in the house, therefore, they had to go to the river. Since rivers are considered to be pious in various religions, especially in the Hindu religion, it was believed that the impure blood secreted from the women’s bodies polluted the pure rivers. Therefore, they used to not take a bath during their menstruation period. This practice is followed by many to date.
However, according to scriptures, you are advised to wash your hair on the third or fifth day from when your periods start. This is also the reason why women are advised to visit any temples after they have washed their hair on the third or fifth day because it is believed to imply purification of your body.
On the contrary, there is no scientific evidence for these myths and claims. However, some studies acutely suggest that washing hair frequently during the menstruation period can cause infertility, according to reports.
Meanwhile, you should keep in mind that both science and astrology suggest that you should not wash your hair or bathe yourself with cold water while you’re menstruating.
These are general suggestions based on astrological beliefs. However, for more personal advice, you are advised to consult with the concerned expert. If you liked this story, then please share it. To read more such stories, stay connected to HerZindagi.
