Since June is Pride Month, here is your guide to understanding the ‘LGBTQ+’ term. It is an umbrella term that refers to the spectrum of different identities and sexualities.
Lesbian
A woman who is attracted towards other women is known as a lesbian. Being a lesbian is one’s sexual identity.
Gay
A homosexual man is a call a gay. In simple terms, a man who is sexually attracted towards another man would be referred to as gay. Sometimes the term is used to describe homosexuality, irrespective of the gender of a person.
Bisexual
A person who is romantically interested in a relationship with both men and women or feels sexually attracted to more than gender is defined as a bisexual individual.
Transgender
A transgender person is one who does not identify with the gender they are born with. Their gender identity and expression do not align what their biological sex.
Queer
Queer is an umbrella term for people who do not identify with heterosexuals. It includes asexual, bisexual, lesbian, gay, and transgender among others.
