Cover Lady, January 2026: This Is What Self-Love Looks Like

For eight editions of the HerZindagi Cover Lady, we found voices and creators that were doing things differently. From women’s sexual health expert Dr Cuterus to lifestyle creator Insha Ghaii, finance educator Neha Nagar, and several others, each Cover Lady brought with her a story rooted in resilience, courage, triumph, and personal growth. They also all had different niches and expertise.

But somewhere along this journey, we wanted to do something different for the January cover.

The essence of a Cover Lady isn’t limited to a profession, a platform, or a follower count. It exists in everyday lives, in quiet resilience, in battles fought away from the spotlight, in a deep belief in oneself and in stories that often go unheard.

Every woman is a Cover Lady in their own right. Every woman has a story that’s unique; struggles she’s dealt with, how she’s been triumphant, and more. So to begin 2026, we asked our readers to tell us their cover story. What followed was stories of honesty and vulnerability, with self-love at the core of most of these journeys. Women overcoming insecurities – those shaped by comparisons, societal dictates, and a patriarchal society – to emerge stronger. Each of these journeys were shaped by a belief in their own selves, convictions and abilities. They were shaped by radical self-love.

Who Is Dr Cuterus Tanya Narendra

For January, we’re doing things differently. There isn’t just one face, or one story. For this edition, they’re all our Cover Ladies.

Kavya Mukhija

Making Access Visible

Born with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita, Kavya Mukhija grew up navigating a world that consistently underestimated her, often through their mindsets and sometimes in the way our cities are designed.

“When I was growing up, my parents were repeatedly told that educating me would be futile. Because I use a wheelchair, people assumed my future would be limited, dependent, and confined,” she recounted. “Schools were inaccessible, public transport was unreliable, and attitudes were often worse than infrastructure.”

Refusing to be confined by systems not built for her, she pursued higher education across borders, becoming the first wheelchair user from India to study at UCL as a Chevening Scholar. From the United Nations to global policy rooms, Kavya has turned lived experience into advocacy, pushing for caregiver visas, inclusive education, and disability-aware policymaking.

“My biggest strength is my ability to make people understand disability, not through fear or pity, but through connection,” she said.

A Diana Award recipient, she is a Cover Lady because her story isn’t about “overcoming” disability, but about insisting every day that the world do better.

Nicole Concessao

Choosing Passion, Taking Space

For Nicole Concessao, growth has meant choosing alignment over certainty. From quitting a full-time job to building a career rooted in dance, she turned a lifelong passion into a language of confidence, expression, and storytelling. She now enjoys around 900k followers on Instagram.

In an industry shaped by visibility and judgement, Nicole learned to move past self-doubt by showing up consistently and creating work she loves. Dance remains both her anchor and her escape.

“Dance means so many different things to me. At first, it was a hobby, something I did for fun,” she explained. “It soon became a mode of income, where things became more professional, training became mandatory, and creativity became essential. Through all of these, I have always found an escape in dance and performance. It has helped me express emotions I couldn’t always put into words. To the women who will be reading this – Girl! Do it for yourself!”

Nicole is a Cover Lady because she represents women who are still figuring it out, choosing themselves again and again, and unapologetically taking space while doing what sets their soul in motion.

Akanksha Kommirelly

Consistency In A World That Constantly Changes

In an industry defined by algorithms, trends, and burnout, Akanksha Kommirelly’s biggest achievement is simple yet rare: she stayed. She started out in 2019, and has seen the internet landscape change and shift, in many unexpected ways. Today, Akanksha has built a thriving community of 200K plus on YouTube and 180K plus on Instagram.

For over six years, the beauty and lifestyle creator has chosen discipline over motivation and consistency over comfort.

“One of my biggest hurdles has always been that I’m very emotional and very sensitive. Earlier, I used to let my mood decide my work a lot,” she highlighted. “Especially when you’re your own boss, nobody is checking on you, nobody is asking if you worked today or not.” She eventually started putting more faith in discipline, over motivation.

From Forbes recognition to a TED Talk, milestones were plenty, but it was resilience that sustained her career. Now an entrepreneur, she’s building a fashion brand rooted in “no-pressure dressing”, which features wardrobe essentials that are timeless, effortless, and real. Akanksha is a Cover Lady because she proves that self-trust and quiet persistence are powerful forms of success.

Sumedha Soni

Reclaiming Self, Beyond Motherhood

After becoming a mother for the second time, Sumedha Soni, a nutritionist, found herself battling more than physical change. She was struggling with silence, self-doubt, and postpartum depression.

Gaining nearly 90 kg left her feeling disconnected from the woman she once was, while her confidence nosedived.

She then chose to turn inward with compassion instead of criticism. By educating herself, becoming a certified nutritionist, and healing her relationship with food, Sumedha lost 30 kg, while gaining something more significant: self-worth.

Today, she helps other women nourish their bodies without guilt and reclaim their confidence after motherhood. Sumedha is a Cover Lady because her journey reminds us that choosing yourself can be a transformative journey, rooted in self-love.

Anjani Bhoj

Choosing Healing, With Honesty and Clarity

Anjani Bhoj’s journey isn’t about perfection or overnight wins, it’s about staying authentic online as herself, through the messiest seasons. Showing up online, as a beauty creator, without filters on her struggles, health, or confidence, has resulted in her building a space rooted in honesty and transparency.

“Some days were really hard, especially when I was diagnosed with Borderline Biopolar disorder,” shared Anjani. “I dealt with it by being honest with myself, getting help when needed and learning to stop being so harsh on myself.

Grounded by deep emotional awareness and the unwavering support of her husband, she continues to grow into her own skin, at her own pace. She highlighted how most women embody a quiet strength, saying, “I love how deeply women feel and still manage everything around them. We’re emotional, strong, intuitive and soft most of the time all at the same time. There’s so much power in that balance and I’ve learnt to embrace it instead of fighting it.”

Anjani Bhoj is a Cover Lady because she reminds women that softness, truth, and choosing peace are powerful forms of strength.

Savita Mukhi

A Life of Unwavering Determination

Savita Mukhi’s journey is a testament to courage that doesn’t announce itself loudly, but can change lives.

Born into a conservative, orthodox trader family where women’s ambitions were often confined to tradition, she carried a quiet but firm desire to learn and to teach. Despite early discouragement and being born with a single kidney, followed by multiple health challenges, Savita chose persistence over limitation. She completed a double MA and a B.Ed, and went on to teach.

Her life reminds us that self-love can be deeply practical: choosing education, purpose, and forward movement even when the odds feel stacked. Savita Mukhi is a Cover Lady because her resilience proves that strength is not the absence of struggle, but the courage to keep going.

Aparna Thomas

Evolving Without Apology

Aparna Thomas, a lifestyle content creator, said that her journey is defined by reinvention without guilt. She has juggled multiple hats, as she started out as an air hostess, then move to working in the media as a VJ and television anchor, and eventually working as a content creator.

Unafraid to change paths, start over, or follow curiosity over comfort, she has embraced growth in its most honest, non-linear form.

She used to be afraid of judgement – something that can be quite the curse for a content creator living a lot of her life online. “I dealt with it by slowly learning to trust my instincts more than external validation,” she said.

Each career shift sharpened her clarity, confidence, and sense of self. Aparna is a Cover Lady because her story reflects a truth many women live but rarely voice: that ambition, uncertainty, courage, and reinvention can coexist—and that you don’t need to be a “finished version” to be worthy of the cover.

Ishita Khanna

Redefining Success, One Brave Pivot At A Time

Ishita Khanna’s journey is powered by courage, the courage to pivot, to question certainty, and to build something meaningful on her own terms.

Moving from years of UPSC preparation to content creation and then entrepreneurship, she chose courage and self-trust, every day. In just three months, she built a community of over 100K in just three months of starting out, which is now growing steadily across platforms.

Her biggest risk? Letting go of a “safe, socially accepted path.”

Viewing failure as a teacher rather than a dead end, Ishita continues to evolve.

She is a Cover Lady because her story reflects a new generation of women proving that discipline and creativity can coexist, and success doesn’t have to follow a single script.

Shalini Samuel

Real and Rooted

For Shalini Samuel, a lifestyle creator, the most defining part of her journey has been consistency. Through all kinds of days, she showed up as herself, without filters or pretence.

What began with a genuine love for beauty, hair, and self-expression grew into a space built on honesty, curiosity, and heart. “You don’t need to be flawless to be impactful,” she believes, and her journey reflects that truth.

Navigating self-doubt and comparison, Shalini chose to turn inward, focusing on her craft, trusting her instincts, and letting confidence grow through consistency rather than validation.

Grounded yet constantly evolving, she creates with intention and sincerity. Shalini is a Cover Lady because her story celebrates relatability and resilience.

Niharika Jain

Creating with Purpose

For Niharika Jain, influence has never been about chasing trends. From building her voice as a fashion creator to launching a jewellery brand inspired by faith and heritage, her journey show a blend of creativity with conviction.

Today, she has built an audience of more than 800K on Instagram and 1.5M on YouTube.

Her biggest hurdle was self-doubt.

“I was questioning whether I’m doing enough, growing fast enough, or being relevant enough in a very noisy digital space. As a creator, it’s easy to constantly compare yourself with others,” she said. “What helped me deal with it was slowing down and reconnecting with my why. I stopped seeking validation externally and started measuring success by alignment rather than numbers.”

Her content, especially mindful series like #WakeUpWithNi, has offered calm and clarity to women when they needed it most. Niharika is a Cover Lady because she proves you don’t have to choose between ambition, authenticity, and values, but that honouring all of them, can be quite beautiful.

Anupriya Singh

Life Can Begin At 40

Anupriya Singh’s journey is a quiet but powerful reminder that timelines are meant to be rewritten. An LSR alumna and a teacher of English and French, she chose to step away from formal work to focus on home and motherhood for nearly two decades. At 42, she returned with clarity, confidence, and courage, re-entering both the workplace and university to rediscover her purpose.

Today, she balances studies, work, fitness, school runs, and playdates, embracing every role with renewed energy.

Anupriya is a Cover Lady because she embodies the spirit of the “Queenager”, showing women that reinvention has no expiry date, and life can begin again, stronger than ever.

Saiyna Khanna

Weaving Stories, Finding Self

For lifestyle creator Saiyna Khanna, growth has come from an unexpected source: her audience.

“I truly believe that it’s not you but the audience that carves your niche,” she says, crediting her viewers for helping her discover new layers of herself and her potential.

One of the most defining chapters of her journey has been creating her couture x entertainment IP, where fashion becomes cinematic storytelling. Through fabric, frame, and feeling, she builds narratives that give designers’ visions an entirely new language.

Saiyna has also been open about her mental health journey. Living with OCD and anxiety from a young age, she has spent years in therapy, doing the inner work alongside her creative work. “I continue to find strength, meaning and purpose in my content as well as the inner work I do in therapy,” she shares, using her platform to advocate for deeper, more honest conversations around mental health.

Her strength lies in her commitment to her craft. “Every colour, every frame, every pause… is a labour of love,” she says, adding that the viewers who notice these details are what keep her going.

Saiyna is a Cover Lady because she creates with intention, vulnerability, and vision.
