The festival of Janmashtami is the joyous celebration of Lord Krishna’s birth and is as much about spiritual devotion as it is about creating an atmosphere of divine harmony. This year, weave in expert-endorsed Vastu principles into your festive décor based on insights shared by Healer Pooja Seth.
With Janmashtami around the corner, Pooja Seth, a renowned crystal healer, sound healer, and angel card reader, shared some simple yet powerful tips to bring positive energy and devotion into your home celebrations. "The right décor and placement during Janmashtami can enhance both the beauty and the vibrations of your home," said Pooja.
According to her, the material of Lord Krishna’s Jhula is important. “Wooden, silver or gold hulas are most auspicious as per Vastu. Decorate them with fresh flowers, colourful rangoli, and vibrant backgrounds to create a festive feel,” she says.
You are advised to place the Pooja setup in the north-east direction as it is considered to be the most sacred zone, as per astrology. "The idol of Lord Krishna can face either east or west for maximum positivity. When dressing the idol, yellow is the most suitable colour, though blue and pink are also considered auspicious," she added.

To enhance the divine charm, you can also add small symbolic elements like Bansuri (flute), peacock feathers, and miniature toys around the Jhula. A toran of flowers or beads can be hung at the entrance of the Pooja area, along with beautiful lights.
Seth mentioned that you should keep the Jhula slightly elevated from the ground to symbolise Lord Krishna’s divine presence. Additionally, you should ensure free space in front for offerings and prayers, and avoid placing it near bathrooms or under staircases. Using pure brass bells can help you clear negative energy, meanwhile, natural fabrics like cotton or silk can be auspicious for draping. "A canopy or backdrop with sacred symbols such as Om, Swastik, or Shankh enhances spiritual vibrations," she added.
Apart from yellow, you can also opt for white and green to attract purity and prosperity. You should also place fresh flowers like marigold, jasmine, and roses on both sides of the Jhula, and light a Ghee Diya on the idol’s right-hand side.
"Keep a small kalash with mango leaves and coconut, a shankh filled with Ganga jal, and play soft bhajans or flute music for a serene atmosphere," suggested the expert.
For prasad, Pooja advised using a mix of fruits, Mithai (sweets), chocolates, toffees, and most importantly Tulsi leaves, which hold deep spiritual significance. “Placing Charan Paduka (symbolic footprints) near the Jhula also invites divine blessings,” she said.

"Perform the midnight Aarti at exactly 12 am, marking the birth of Lord Krishna with devotion and joy. These little details are not just décor, they are an offering of love, faith, and positive energy," concluded Pooja.
