As per Hindu astrology and spirituality, the Moon holds a revered position and is believed to symbolise emotional balance, intuition, and inner peace. There is an ancient ritual where the devotees offer Arghya to the moon. But should you perform this ritual daily or not? Let us know from our expert, Jyotishcharya Radhakant Vats, in this article.
Why Shouldn’t You Offer Arghya To The Moon?
Astrologer Vats explained, “As per the legend, the moon is considered tainted because it has been cursed by Lord Ganesha. It is said that whoever worships the moon, looses all happiness and prosperity and he will also be tainted.”
He added that this curse also suggests that moon worship is especially prohibited on the Chaturthi Tithi of Krishna and Shukla Paksha of any month. “Additionally, worshipping the moon and offering Arghya daily is also considered forbidden in the scriptures,” he continued.
He also shared, “It is mentioned in the scriptures that apart from some important dates, the worship done after sunset is not Satvik but comes under the Tantric category. Arghya is also offered to the moon only at night which is why offering water to the moon every night can create defects in the worship and the flow of negative energy in the house will also increase. Also, the position of the moon will keep getting weaker instead of getting stronger in the horoscope.”

Meanwhile, it is considered auspicious to offer Arghya to the moon or worship it during fasts like Karva Chauth and Ahoi Ashtami. “Apart from this, one can also offer Arghya to the moon on the full moon date. Chandra Arghya on this date brings auspiciousness in the house,” concluded the astrologer.
